MAO's Story
A Musical Encounter of Freedom, Improvisation, and Emotional Precision
In 2024, percussionist Maayan Doari and pianist Orel Oshrat came together for a spontaneous, intimate, and open-ended session - one that led to an exhilarating discovery: a raw, stripped-down, and uniquely personal sound.
Their duo is built on the fusion of musical precision and minimalism, where every note holds weight and meaning, alongside boundless creative freedom and explosive spontaneity that brings the music to life.

Orel and Maayan have been collaborating for nearly a decade, sharing the stage in various ensembles, performing at festivals in Israel and abroad, and working alongside leading artists. Their deep musical connection first emerged in the ensemble of oud and percussion master Yinon Muallem, where their remarkable ability for sensitive listening, self-expression, and mutual empowerment was already evident. Their influences blended naturally, creating a synergy that continues to evolve.

This unique partnership has already yielded two EPs: one released in collaboration with the international label Artlist, featuring original compositions with arrangements that highlight their distinctive musical dialogue, and another - a live session EP, where every note was captured in the moment.

Today, MAO presents a signature sound that reflects the personal and professional journeys of both musicians. Through deep listening and rich self-expression, they create a musical conversation that invites audiences on an emotional and powerful journey.

Orel Oshrat

Orel’s musical journey began at the age of seven, when he immersed himself in the foundations of classical music, developing a deep appreciation for precision and harmonic richness. At thirteen, he discovered jazz, where he found creative freedom and new avenues for improvisation and expression.
He studied at the prestigious CMDL jazz school in France and later at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, focusing on composition and arrangement across diverse styles.

Orel brings emotional depth and a unique musical identity to the duo, blending global influences with his strong Israeli roots.

Maayan Doari

Maayan Doari is a percussion artist, influenced by styles from Spain, the Middle East, West Africa, and beyond.
Raised in Rosh Pina in northern Israel, Maayan was exposed to a vast musical spectrum from an early age - from the American and British rock his parents played at home to the rhythmic intricacies of flamenco, African, and Turkish music. After performing with renowned artists such as Ehud Banai, Rafael de Utrera, Uriel Herman, and Idan Raichel, Maayan has developed a vast and versatile musical palette.
His ability to seamlessly navigate between structured accompaniment and open improvisation allows for a dynamic and rich range of musical expression.
